공기놀이 Gonggi

Writer: AMY AHNAMY AHN

I used to play gonggi a lot when I was young. These days, more people are playing it thanks to the influence of Squid Game.

It’s even sold on Amazon—need I say more?

Today, let’s learn how to play gonggi!

How to Play Gonggi

What You Need: 5 small stones or gonggi pieces

How to Play:

1. Spread the stones on the ground.

2. First Round: Pick up one stone, throw it in the air, and quickly pick up another stone before catching the first one. Do this until you pick up all the stones one by one.

3. Second Round: Pick up two stones at a time while throwing one in the air.

4. Third Round: Pick up three stones first, then the last one.

5. Fourth Round: Pick up all four stones at once while throwing one in the air.

6. Final Round (Hand Flip): Toss all five stones up, catch as many as possible on the back of your hand, then throw them again and catch them normally.

The player who completes all rounds without mistakes wins!

What do you think? Easy, right? 🎉 We’ll be playing this game on Korean Games Day, March 8!

It’s even more fun to play together than alone. Let’s enjoy the game together!

Mistakes are just part of learning, so don’t worry! 😊
