Mission Alamo or Fort Alamo is a historic complex located in San Antonio, Texas, consisting of an old mission and fort. It is now a museum. Originally, this complex, which included the sanctuary and surrounding buildings, was built by the Spanish Empire in the 18th century for the purpose of educating local Native Americans and converting them to Christianity. After it ceased functioning as a mission, it was used as a military fort in the 19th century and became the site of several significant military actions, including the famous Battle of the Alamo in 1836 during the Texas Revolution, which was a pivotal battle between the Texian Republic and Mexican forces.
