Objectives
By the end of this training program, learners will be able to comfortably carry out a 10-minute conversation (at their level) in Korean. Learners will gain speech strategies and make them automatic/habitual for the following:
starting and ending conversations, as well as keeping the conversation going (reacting, asking questions back)
working around communicative breakdowns/limitations in conversation without reverting to English
acquiring new language within Korean conversation (helping any native speaker teach you something new)
Expected time commitment
While the expected time commitment depends on how detailed you want your target phrases to be, we estimate that most learners spend about 2 hours per lesson (and there are 13 lessons in total). We highly encourage you to take advantage of the native speaker facilitator by asking all the questions you have (translation, cultural usage, etc.)
Group practice sessions
Meet with a native speaker (facilitator) for up to three (3) live meetings over Zoom throughout the course of the boot camp. You can choose a 1-on-1 session (30 min.) or a group session (60 min.) depending on availability/enrollment. These sessions are designed to put into practice what you've learned cumulatively up to that point. (Scheduling becomes available after every 3 lessons you complete).
Language tasks with feedback
Each "lesson" has an accompanying language task which prompts you to speak the target phrases in a given communicative context. We challenge you to customize the phrases from the lesson to the degree of detail you want to communicate, and your native speaker facilitator will provide you with personalized feedback each time so that you can sound natural and fluent.
Accountability features
This boot camp aims to provide accountability for you to meet your goals through our recently implemented study buddy system (optional). We also offer a Final Speaking Test to evaluate whether the objective was met (ability to hold a 10-minute conversation with a native speaker). The final test is optional, available for $35 test fee.
